Roughly fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered many other marked automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state preliminary tests show the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; authorities are not yet informed of any harm in association with the incident," they stated.
City officials stated they were working "to solve the case" and have requested to the public for tips.
A senior representative commented the attack made him stunned and had to be solved quickly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on online, recalling the death of nine individuals by a shooter targeting residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
