Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Table

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, fiends, and dark forces expanding in influence within the city.

Warning: Key plot points for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might seem out of place, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and warns that it is a nasty environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • But, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could help the team access places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The healer betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the family.

This means them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in quest for the traitor.

What’s Next?

From episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the other eight players to round up the Explorers and Planners parties.

Viewers can look forward to discovering which characters will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
